How do you ensure that non-stick pans last longer?

Hoe zorg je ervoor dat non-stick pannen langer meegaan?

Do you want your non-stick pans to last longer? Then there are a few things you need to keep in mind. By cleaning and using your pans properly, you ensure that you enjoy cooking with your pan set for even longer.

5 tips! How to give non-stick pans a longer life in your kitchen

If you have bought a nice pan set, you want to take good care of it. You do this by properly maintaining and caring for the non-stick pans. For example, by oiling the pans after each use and washing them by hand. It’s better to avoid the dishwasher.

This also applies to heating an empty non-stick pan on high heat. The use of stainless steel kitchen utensils is also discouraged. With these tips, your pans will last even longer and you will elevate your cooking skills. How? We give you 5 tips.

1. Oil the pans after use

Non-stick pans have a special coating. Have you bought new pans? Then wash them by hand. The best way is with a gentle dish soap and lukewarm water. Dry the pan thoroughly. Put a little oil on a paper towel and rub the inside of the pan with it. Do this when you first use the pan, but also after every other use in the kitchen. This way your non-stick pans will stay beautiful for longer.

2. Do not put non-stick pans in the dishwasher

Most manufacturers claim that non-stick pans are dishwasher safe. However, the hot water and aggressive detergents are not beneficial for the lifespan of your pans. The coating of a non-stick pan can be seriously damaged by this. So preferably wash the pans by hand. Use a soft sponge or a soft brush for this. It is also wise not to use aggressive cleaning agents. These products can also damage the surface.

3. Do not hold a hot pan under the tap

Do not hold a hot pan that has just been used under the tap. This causes a sudden temperature change. This creates a lot of stress in the pan. Due to the rapid cooling, the non-stick coating can be damaged and the pan can warp. Always let a hot pan cool down first before immersing it in water or washing it by hand.

4. Do not use sharp kitchen utensils with non-stick pans

Do not use sharp objects or stainless steel kitchen utensils, such as a whisk, spoon, or meat tongs. This causes scratches on the non-stick coating of the pan. If you want your non-stick pans to last longer, it is wise to use tools made of silicone or wood. Also, be careful when storing the pan set. Do not just stack the pans on top of each other. Use dish towels to prevent scratches.

5. Preheating an empty pan on high heat

Be careful when preheating a non-stick pan on high heat. The high temperature can damage the coating of your non-stick pan set. Most pans reach very high temperatures within a few minutes. This is necessary, for example, if you want to sauté food or quickly sear meat.

With this cooking technique, you heat the pan on high heat with a small amount of oil or butter. This prevents damage to the inside of a non-stick pan. So always make sure there is a little oil or fat in the pan when you want to preheat it. Spread it evenly over the pan and then add the ingredients. This way the coating and your non-stick pan stay in good condition and you will enjoy it in the kitchen for even longer.
